The Southern Portfolio (nztaxtools.co.nz) is written and operated by Alan Gilbert, based in Auckland, New Zealand. This policy explains what information is collected when you visit this site, how it's used, and what choices you have. It's written in plain language rather than legal boilerplate, in keeping with the rest of the site.
There are no user accounts, logins, or forms that collect personal financial information. The calculators on this site (FIF, PIR, KiwiSaver fees, platform comparison) run entirely in your browser. The numbers you enter are never sent to a server, stored, or seen by anyone, they exist only on your device for as long as the page is open.
Like most websites, this site uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how many people visit, which pages they read, and roughly where visitors are located (at a country or city level, not precise location). This is aggregated, statistical information, not used to identify you personally. Analytics data is retained for 14 months before being automatically deleted.
This information is collected via cookies and similar technologies, small text files stored on your device. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time; doing so may affect how some site features work.
This site displays advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. This may include personalised advertising, meaning ads shown to you may be based on your browsing activity.
Articles and tools on this site link to external resources, including IRD, RBNZ, and investment platforms such as Sharesies, Hatch, and InvestNow. As this site is operated from New Zealand, information practices are governed by the Privacy Act 2020. Because so little personal information is collected in the first place (no accounts, no stored form submissions), there is generally very little to request or correct.
